World Cup Qatar 2022: Qualification / Elimination Scenarios - Groups G & H

With the final Match Day for Groups G & H held today, let’s look at the possible qualification and elimination scenarios for each nation.

Group G

For Qualification for the Round of 16

• 🇧🇷 Brazil: N/A - Already QUALIFIED

• 🇨🇭 Switzerland will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Serbia OR;

  • They DRAW vs Serbia AND Cameroon DRAWS or LOSES vs Brazil

• 🇷🇸 Serbia will QUALIFY for the Round or 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Switzerland AND Cameroon DRAWS or LOSES OR;

  • They WIN vs Switzerland by a larger margin than Cameroon (if they were to win vs Brazil)

• 🇨🇲 Cameroon will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Brazil AND Switzerland DRAWS vs Serbia while having a lower goal tally than Cameroon (if Cameroon wins by 1 goal) OR;

  • They WIN vs Brazil AND Switzerland LOSES vs Serbia by 1 goal

For Elimination from the World Cup

• 🇨🇲 Cameroon will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They DRAW or LOSE vs Brazil OR;

  • They WIN vs Brazil by 1 goal AND Switzerland or Serbia WINS by 2+ goals

• 🇷🇸 Serbia will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They DRAW or LOSE vs Switzerland OR;

  • They WIN vs Switzerland AND Cameroon WINS vs Brazil and finishes with a higher goal differential

• 🇨🇭 Switzerland will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Serbia OR;

  • They DRAW vs Serbia AND Cameroon WINS vs Brazil and finishes with a higher goal differential or goal tally than Switzerland

• 🇧🇷 Brazil: N/A - Already Qualified

Group H

For Qualification for the Round of 16

• 🇵🇹 Portugal: N/A - Already QUALIFIED

• 🇬🇭 Ghana will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Uruguay OR;

  • They DRAW vs Uruguay AND South Korea DRAWS or LOSES vs Portugal OR;

  • They DRAW vs Portugal AND South Korea WINS by 1 goal and/or finishes with a lower goal tally than Ghana OR;

  • They LOSE vs Uruguay by a 1-goal score AND South Korea DRAWS or LOSES vs Portugal

• 🇰🇷 South Korea will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Portugal AND Ghana LOSES vs Uruguay by 1 goal OR;

  • They WIN vs Portugal by 2+ goals AND Ghana DRAWS vs Uruguay OR;

  • They WIN vs Portugal AND finish with a higher goal tally than Ghana, AND Ghana DRAWS vs Uruguay

• 🇺🇾 Uruguay will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Ghana AND South Korea DRAWS or LOSES, OR WINS vs Portugal but finish with a lower goal differential and/or goal tally than Uruguay

For Elimination from the World Cup

• 🇺🇾 Uruguay will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They DRAW or LOSE vs Ghana OR;

  • They WIN vs Ghana AND South Korea WINS vs Portugal, AND finishes with a higher goal differential than Uruguay

• 🇰🇷 South Korea will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They DRAW or LOSE vs Portugal OR;

  • They WIN vs Portugal AND Ghana WINS or DRAWS OR;

  • They WIN AND Uruguay WINS by a higher goal margin or finishes with a higher goal tally than South Korea

• 🇬🇭 Ghana will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Uruguay OR;

  • They DRAW vs Uruguay AND South Korea WINS vs Portugal, AND finishes with a higher goal differential than Ghana

• 🇵🇹 Portugal: N/A - Already Qualified
