World Cup Qatar 2022: Qualification / Elimination Scenarios - Groups E & F

With the final Match Day for Groups E & F held today, let’s look at the possible qualification and elimination scenarios for each nation.

Group E

For Qualification for the Round of 16

• 🇪🇸 Spain will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN or DRAW vs Japan OR;

  • They LOSE vs Japan AND Costa Rica DRAWS vs Germany, OR Germany WINS vs Costa Rica while maintaining a smaller goal differential than Spain

• 🇯🇵 Japan will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Spain OR;

  • They DRAW vs Spain AND Costa Rica DRAWS vs Germany, OR Germany WINS vs Costa Rica while having a higher goal tally than Germany

• 🇨🇷 Costa Rica will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Germany OR;

  • They DRAW vs Germany AND Japan LOSES vs Spain

• 🇩🇪 Germany will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Costa Rica AND Japan LOSES vs Spain OR;

  • They WIN vs Costa Rica by 2+ goals AND Japan DRAWS vs Spain

For Elimination from the World Cup

• 🇩🇪 Germany will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE or DRAW vs Costa Rica OR;

  • They WIN vs Costa Rica by 2+ goals AND Japan LOSES or DRAWS vs Spain

• 🇨🇷 Costa Rica will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Germany OR;

  • They DRAW vs Germany AND Japan WINS or DRAWS vs Spain

• 🇯🇵 Japan will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Spain OR;

  • They DRAW vs Spain AND Costa Rica WINS vs Germany, OR Germany wins vs Costa Rica by 2+ goals

• 🇪🇸 Spain will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Japan AND Costa Rica WINS vs Germany OR;

  • They LOSE vs Japan AND Germany WINS vs Costa Rica and finishes with a higher goal differential than Spain

Group F

For Qualification for the Round of 16

• 🇭🇷 Croatia will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN or DRAW vs Belgium OR;

  • They LOSE AND Morocco LOSES vs Canada

• 🇲🇦 Morocco will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN or DRAW vs Canada OR;

  • They LOSE vs Canada by no more than 2 goals AND Belgium LOSES or DRAWS vs Croatia

• 🇧🇪 Belgium will QUALIFY for the Round of 16 if:

  • They WIN vs Croatia OR;

  • They DRAW vs Croatia AND Morocco loses by 3+ goals vs Canada, AND ends up scoring less total goals than Belgium

• 🇨🇦 Canada: N/A - Already Eliminated

For Elimination from the World Cup

• 🇨🇦 Canada: Already ELIMINATED

• 🇧🇪 Belgium will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They lose vs Croatia OR;

  • They DRAW vs Croatia AND Morocco WINS, DRAWS, or LOSES vs Canada by less than 3 goals

• 🇲🇦 Morocco will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Canada AND Belgium WINS vs Croatia OR;

  • They LOSE vs Canada by more than 3 goals AND Belgium DRAWS vs Croatia

• 🇭🇷 Croatia will be ELIMINATED from the World Cup if:

  • They LOSE vs Belgium AND Morocco WINS vs Canada OR;

  • They LOSE vs Belgium by 2+ goals AND Morocco DRAWS vs Canada
